Keiki 'N Critters was created to give the children of Oahu an up close experience with live animals in their home, community center, or classroom!
Our staff brings over a decade of experience in animal care, educational presentations, and conservation knowledge, in order to ensure that your children and our animals are able to interact in an environment that is safe, fun, and educational.
It is our hope that through Keiki 'N Critters, future generations will grow up with an appreciation for all life, and the understanding that, as living things, we are all connected with the health of our planet.
All of our animals are cared for in accordance to USDA guidelines to ensure that they live safe and comfortable lives. In addition, they are trained exclusively through Positive Reinforcement, which puts the highest emphasis on maximizing animal choice and minimizing stress.
Specific animals are assigned to specific presentations, but please feel free to make special requests and we will see if that is possible.
Each of our presentations has been designed to fulfill core academic requirements for classrooms. We are also able to customize our presentations to better suit the audience, whether they be a child's birthday party or a college psychology course!
In addition to the core lessons, presentations also include a touch session with the animal(s) as well as a Q&A session.

Stormy the silkie rooster is a favorite of keiki for all ages. Trained to carry out over half a dozen behaviors, Stormy is as cunning as he is fluffy!
Sulcata tortoises like Speedy may one day grow to over 200 pounds, making them one of the largest tortoises on the planet! Unfortunately, because of this, Speedy's owners could not take care of him anymore, so Keiki 'N Critters took him in. Gentle and easy-going, he is an excellent animal for demonstrating adaptations as well as the importance of proper animal care.
Keiki 'N Creatures is home to a colony of pink winged stick insects from Madagascar. These bizarre-but-harmless leaf eaters are perfect for helping children understand that just because something is different does not mean that they are dangerous.
Marine toads area as fascinating as they are poisonous! Don't worry though: they are not harmful to humans as long as we continue to wash our hands with soap and water.
Guppies are sometimes overshadowed by flashier fish, but their beautiful fins are excellent for teaching keiki about fish and the differences between males and females. They are also incredibly hardy, making them perfect first-time pets!
Eew, are those worms?! Yes! The same features that make worms discussing to many people are also what makes them so important to life on the planet as they recycle nutrients for plants to continue growing. It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it!
Help Keiki discover the difference between living and non-living things. In addition to understanding the basic requirements that all living organisms need for survival, Keiki are taught about the sheer diversity of life on this planet and how many other living things can still be important, even if they do not look or act exactly like we do.

Many animals alive today look different from their ancestors, and the more time that passes, the more some species change in order to adapt and survive. However, sometimes, traits also stay the same. From studying fossils and comparing them to the animals alive today, sometimes we can trace the path of evolution
